Logo Policy

Faculty and Staff Logos:

Primary Academic Logos

Unique logos are not permitted for any academic, administrative or research units, including colleges, departments, divisions and offices within divisions or academic programs. There can be no exceptions. Academic units must use the Primary Logo shown on page 11 of the Graphic Identity Manual. The use of unique logos undermines efforts to build a unified brand.

Secondary Support Logos

Centers and institutes that provide support services must use official university symbols. Service providers are not defined as colleges, schools, departments, divisions, programs, academic centers or institutes. Support units may use the logos shown on page 11 or 12 of the Graphic Identity Manual but must choose one logo for the entire unit in order to maintain a consistent brand. The primary academic logo shown on page 11 is always the preferred brand. Final designs must be created or approved by SDSU Marketing & Communications.

Official Student Organizations:

San Diego State University student organizations are not authorized to use university logos unless approved by SDSU Marketing & Communications.

Student organizations may use the letters “SDSU” or the words “San Diego State University” with a unique illustration or as a text only logo. The unique logo and type treatment must be clearly different than the university logo. The university name may not appear on merchandise for sale without prior authorization from SDSU Marketing & Communications.

Student organizations may be authorized to use university logos for an approved event or project. They should not be used as identifying marks for the organization. Final design applications must be reviewed and approved by SDSU Marketing & Communications.
