ACCOUNTING

BETA ALPHA PSI has been a national honorary society and professional organization since 1919. In 1960 the Beta Alpha Chapter was chartered at San Diego State to recognize and promote academic and professional excellence in accounting, finance, and information systems. This includes the study and practice of business administration, opportunities for self-development, associating with members and practicing professionals, and encouraging ethical, social, and public responsibility. In addition, the Beta Eta chapter is an award-winning chapter that routinely competes and places in both regional and national competitions. Our members gain invaluable experience in public speaking and have numerous opportunities to interact with leading business professionals throughout the greater California region as well national and international business leaders.

The society conducts professional meetings, seminars, banquets, and social activities with professionals in accounting, finance, and information systems. Undergraduates must have declared a concentration in accounting, finance, or information and decision systems and must have completed at least one 300-level course within the major outside of the business core courses. They must also have maintained a 3.25 GPA in upper division for their major and overall.

Graduate students must have matriculated into a master’s degree program in accounting, finance, or information systems. Before initiation they must have completed at least six units as a graduate student at SDSU and must have attained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 within the graduate program and overall. All candidates must complete a series of professional, community service, and fundraising events. Candidate applications are accepted at the beginning of each semester.

The faculty adviser is Dr. David DeBoskey, School of Accountancy, 594-2376, debocpafa2005@aol.com.
