CIVIL, CONSTRUCTION & ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

CHI EPSILON was established nationally in 1922 and the local chapter in 1967. Chi Epsilon is dedicated to maintaining and promoting the status of civil engineering as an ideal profession and was organized to recognize the characteristics of the individual civil engineer deemed to be fundamental to the successful pursuit of an engineering career.

To be eligible for membership, an undergraduate student must rank scholastically in the upper third of one’s class in a curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree in civil, environmental, or construction engineering. The candidate must also satisfy additional requirements specified in the constitution and local chapter Policies and Rules of Procedure. The candidate must also actively participate in local chapter activities. Participation in a formal initiation ceremony is also required.

Candidates are selected for membership in the beginning of each semester and initiation of eligible candidates is held at the semester’s end. Among the activities of the association are biweekly programs, sponsored social events, and community service projects.

The faculty adviser is Dr. Bruce Westermo, College of Engineering, 594-7007, MC 1326, bwesterm@mail.sdsu.edu.
