Mortar Board

Cap and Gown Chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society
Mortar Board is a national honor society for college seniors. The society recognizes in its members the qualities of superior scholastic ability, outstanding leadership, and dedicated service to the University. Mortar Board membership means active involvement on campus and in the community. There are 210 chapters. At the 2012 and 2003 National Conference the SDSU Cap and Gown Chapter received the Ruth Weimer Mount Award as the most outstanding chapter in the United States. This is the only chapter to recieve the award twice. The chapter also received the Project Excellence Awards for 15 of its projects, the Golden Torch Award for its excellence in supporting the ideals of Mortar Board, and the Excellence in Advising Award.

Current projects include philanthropy projects related to the national focus on literacy, hosting a faculty and staff appreciation dinner, and publishing the SDSU Daily Planner and Calendar of Events (a daily planning calendar and information booklet for the University community). Along with the Alumni Chapter, the chapter provides over $10,000 in scholarships to initiates and graduating seniors.

To be considered for election to membership, students must have senior standing for the fall semester with an overall GPA of 3.2 and have participated and excelled in scholarship, leadership, and service. Admission to Mortar Board is highly competitive and is restricted to 45 students a year.
