ENGINEERING

TAU BETA PI was established nationally in 1885. The local chapter was formed in 1973. The purpose of the society is to foster a spirit of liberal culture in the College of Engineering, to recognize outstanding students of engineering and to provide community service.

To be eligible for membership, seniors must be in the top 20 percent of the engineering class. Juniors must be in the top 12.5 percent of the engineering class. The society is open primarily to junior and senior engineering majors. A limited number of graduate engineering students whose GPA is 3.5 or higher may be considered for admission. Admission periods are scheduled every semester.

Among its activities are participation in a tutoring center open to all engineering students, organizing canned food and holiday toy drives, and résumé book networking with industry.

Faculty adviser is Dr. Bruce Westermo, College of Engineering, MC 1326, 594-7007, bwesterm@mail.sdsu.edu.
