Honors Admissions

Students should consider applying to the University Honors College if they are stimulated by ideas, skeptical of definitive answers or of easy solutions, and pursuing an education, not just a degree. If accepted, University Honors College students will find themselves in an intellectual peer group with a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

Honors Admission Requirements

High School Applicants

High school seniors (incoming college freshmen) will be required to meet one of the following three eligibility criteria in order to apply:

• A grade point average of 3.70 or above, or

• A score of 1200 or above on the SAT (math & verbal), or

• A composite score of 28 or above on the ACT

Currently enrolled SDSU Applicants

Current SDSU students must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average in order to apply.

Transfer Applicants

Students applying from a community college or another university must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average in order to apply.

AP, IB, or Concurrent Enrollment Credit

Many of our incoming Honors freshmen arrive with college credit earned through AP tests, concurrent enrollment credit, or an IB experience. These credits may count toward some of your General Education requirements; however, these credits cannot be used toward completion of the University Honors College requirements.

Honors classes are not interchangeable with any coursework done in high school; therefore, AP, IB, or community college credits do not waive any of the Honors requirements.

For information on SDSU policies regarding incoming college credit for General Education, please visit the Office of Advising and Evaluations
