Community College Finance

As leaders transition through successive administrative ranks in community colleges, they often report needing greater levels of preparation in the area of finance. In fact, research has repeatedly demonstrated that finance, budgeting, and resource management are the chief transitional challenges facing community college leaders. This program is designed for individuals who desire greater preparation to engage the practice of financial administration and leadership in the community college.
This program is designed for completion in five months.
Who Should Apply? 
Those individuals who either hold current leadership roles or are preparing to transition into the administrative ranks in academic, student, and business affairs will benefit from the coursework offered in this executive certificate. 

The program includes a five- module sequence:

  • Foundations and Principles of Finance – An overview of the legal and governance frameworks influencing community college financial systems.

  • Federal Law, Regulations, and External Oversight - A broad overview of the Federal laws that influence Higher education (i.e. FERPA, ADA, Tite IX, Financial Aid Policy).

  • Budgeting Applications – Practical application of budgeting theories, techniques, and technologies as they pertain to long- and short-term timeframes.

  • Financial Management and Planning- Equitable management and planning of human, fiscal, and information resources in community colleges. 

  • Contemporary Issues in Finance – A look at current trends in policy, practice, and research.
