The Linguistics Option

On this page: Learn about the linguistics option, chosen by Liberal Studies majors who wish to earn a TESL certificate Credential after completing their undergraduate degree.

About the Linguistics Option

The Linguistics option lends itself better to those who choose the Literacy focus because by taking these extra 2 linguistics classes, it is possible to earn the TESL certificate.

About the TESL Certificate

The Linguistics option leads to the TESL certificate. TESL stands for Teaching English as a Second Language (sometimes called TEFL). The TESL certificate prepares educators to teach English to non-English speakers. See an advisor in the Linguistics Department if you are interested in pursuing this certificate.
