Mona Klausing, M.S.


Mona served for 20 years as an international marketing, business and public relations executive in the high tech industry before joining the counseling profession. As an undergraduate, she obtained a B.A. in Linguistics with a Minor in Japanese Studes from UCSD. Her graduate education includes an M.S. in Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) from SDSU in 2013, and two post-Master’s certificates in Latin American Family Therapy from Alliant University Mexico City Campus and Narrative Therapy & Community Work from Narrative Health Initiatives (NHI) in San Diego. 

Research & Teaching Interests:

Mona served first as a graduate assistant and more recently as an instructor in the MFT, School Counseling and School Psychology programs. Her clinical, research and teaching interests include cross cultural counseling skills, group counseling, multi-ethnic couples and families, women’s health issues, and clinic administration.

Professional Activities:

Mona completed her clinical training at SDSU’s Center for Community Counseling & Engagement (CCCE) where she worked with immigrant and underserved populations in English and Spanish and at NHI working with couples, families and women’s health issues. In addition to serving as the clinic administrator at CCCE from 2013-present, Mona maintains a steady private practice at NHI and is pursuing MFT licensure in early 2016 after which she will begin her AAMFT Approved Supervisor training.

Personal Interests:

Mona’s diverse interests include music, art, fiction, travel, yoga, cooking, volunteering and enjoying nature with her family and animals.
