Science in the Secondary School Curriculum

The course is designed for those who wish to refresh their knowledge of General Science to prepare for the CSET Science Subtest I. Topics will be selected from the standards stressed in the CSET subtest I. The examination requires that the candidate demonstrate a deep conceptual knowledge of each content domain i.e. the topics selected are tested from an advanced viewpoint. The main focus of the course will be to guide the students in developing this deep conceptual knowledge by working in small groups on related problems of increasing complexity and depth. Topics covered will include a review of Astronomy, Biology, Geodynamics, Electricity and Magnetism, Investigation and Experimentation, the Nature of Science, Science and Society, Ecology, Genetics and Evolution, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Cell and Organismal Biology, Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics and the Structure and Properties of Matter.
