# Dr. Asfaw Beyene received an award for the Industrial Assessment Center, Department of Energy, $440,000, 2008 - 2011.

# Dr. Asfaw Beyene received an award for the City of Chula Vista Bayfront Sustainable Energy Project, San Diego Gas and Electric, $180,000, 2008-9.

# Dr. R. M. German joined SDSU as Associate Dean of Engineering and Professor of Mechanical Engineering on August 15.

# Dr. Karen May-Newman received the 2008-9 SDSU Alumni Association Outstanding Professor (Monty) Award.

# Dr. Kee S. Moon served as the Symposium general chair, SPIE International Symposium on Optomechatronic Technologies, San Diego, 2008.

Dr. Kee Moon was selected as the finalists for the 2008 ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division (DSCC) Best Student Paper Award (advisor and co-author).

# Dr. Khaled Morsi was a PI with Drs. Moon and Kassegne on a $307K NSF grant to study a new macro-to-nano manufacturing process invented at SDSU, Current Activated Tip-based Sintering, CATS.

Dr. Khaled Morsi Materials Science Co-organized a Symposium at the 2008 meeting of TMS on Micro-Engineered Particulate-based Materials.

Dr. Khaled Morsi chaired a Technical Session in Materials Science Conference in the TMS 2008 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition conferences.

Dr. Khaled Morsi was elected Chair of the Powder Materials Committee of the Minerals Metals and Materials Society (TMS) for a 2-year term.

Dr. Eugene Olevsky was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
