What do I need from the IRB in order to register for thesis 799A?

Enrolling in Thesis

Graduate students who have been advanced to candidacy and who have an officially appointed thesis committee are permitted to enroll in 799A. There are two options for fullfilling the IRB requirement to allow enrollment in 799A:

1. Student is added to Faculty Advisor’s existing IRB approved protocol:

  • Submit an amendment/personnel change request to the reviewing IRB requesting to add the student and their thesis project to the existing approved protocol
  •

  • Attach a copy of the IRB amendment approval letter (which indicates the student was added to the Faculty Advisor protocol) to the thesis enrollment form in order to enroll in Thesis 799A
  •

    2. Student submits a new research project for IRB review

    • If you have solidified the details of your research with your advisor, you may submit your protocol to the IRB for review.

Any involvement of human subjects in the research is not authorized until the IRB has reviewed and approved a complete IRB protocol.
