San Diego State University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management has been selected as one of three Global Training Centers for Meetings and Business Events by Meetings Professionals International (MPI).

SDSU is the first university in North America to receive this designation. MPI selected SDSU because of its globally recognized meeting and event management courses and its strong focus on business management.

“We are very proud to have San Diego State University as our partner for the deployment of our global training practice," said Didier Scaillet, vice president of global development and chief development officer for MPI.

"Over the years, SDSU has become a renowned provider of talents for our industry – combining entrepreneurship, genuine industry understanding and solid business practice.”

Providing a range of content

MPI will collaborate with SDSU faculty and professional education community to deliver a broad range of educational content for the meetings and events industry in the United States.

“SDSU is proud to have been chosen by such a well-known and prestigious organization to educate professionals in this field,” said Carl Winston, the school’s director.

MPI also selected France’s CERAM Business School, and QMDI in Qatar and anticipates a total of 14 training centers to be activated over the next two years worldwide.

“These partners will form a strong and collaborative network supporting these education and research needs in our industry,” Scaillet said.

The MPI Global Training Centers were created in order to provide the industry with a standardized body of knowledge that would enable event professionals to obtain globally transferable skills and competencies.

They will also allow MPI to globally distribute the modules of the MPI Global Knowledge Plan. MPI’s knowledge plan is a learning path for the global community that ensures appropriate career and personal development at each stage of an individual’s career.
