San Diego State University researchers, and in turn the San Diego region, continue to benefit from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, with the announcement of an additional $1.5 million in funding this week. To date, SDSU has received 21 grants, totaling more than $4 million.

The latest grants, awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) support the following SDSU research projects:

NIH Awards

  • Dr. Roberta Gottlieb, biology, "Rescue and Role of Complex I in Myocardial Ischemic Injury," $157,724
  • Asa Gustafsson, biology, "Role of Bnip3 in Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion," $265,235
  • Sarah Mattson, psychology, "A Multisite Neurobehavioral Assessment of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders," $305,875
  • William Tong, chemistry, "San Diego State University Minority Biomedical Research Support Program," $319,248

NSF Award

  • Satish Sharma, electrical and computer engineering, "CAREER:Novel Reconfigurable Aperture Antennas and Arrays for Compact Multifunctional Antenna Solutions," $400,000
