Green Lunch Explores Sustainable Buildings

The Green Lunch Bag Series will discuss sustainable buildings at its next event from noon to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, in Scripps Cottage.

Specifically, speakers will address LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, the green building certification administered by the third-party nonprofit organization, U.S. Green Building Council.

Event speakers include:

• Derick Frederick is director of food and beverage for Hotel Indigo, San Diego's first LEED-certified hotel. Frederick will discuss the sustainable features and practices of the hotel, as well as the green initiatives led by Intercontinental Hotel Group.
• Michelle Perez is an accredited professional in LEED building operations and management for UCSD Building Commissioning and Sustainability. She will discuss discuss the importance of the work being done by the U.S. Green Building Council students groups from UCSD and SDSU to obtain LEED certification of  the Mission Bay Aquatic Center. The certification will be a first for an Associated Students-managed facility.

Attendees will receive a free organic lunch. The Green Lunch Bag Series is sponsored by the Associated Students Green Love Sustainability Board and the SDSU Center for Regional Sustainability.
