The San Diego Region Joint Planning Conference for Engineering and Science Chapters will take place Aug. 3.
The San Diego MESA Alliance and Raytheon Company will host a unique event to bring student leaders and professionals together to network, collaborate and exchange ideas for improving math and science education.
This year the conference will be hosted by Raytheon Company and San Diego MESA Alliance, which aims to increase the number of students to pursue academic and career paths in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics industries, increase retention in these disciplines and promote opportunities in post graduate studies.
The San Diego Region Joint Planning Conference for Engineering and Science Chapters will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 3, at Raytheon Company.
Approximately 50 guests are expected to attend, including professionals from various industries and student leaders from San Diego State University, University of California San Diego, San Diego City College and Southwestern College.
The conference, which will feature speeches from professionals and a panel of alumni is intended to give professional and student leaders from different organizations an opportunity to get together and share their stories, goals and ideas.
“It’s unique in that it’s the only regional event in San Diego where we get student organizations and professionals and put them together in a forum,” said Eric Pamintuan, program coordinator for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathermatics Partnership of San Diego, a collaborative of the MESA programs at three different college campuses that include SDSU.
“The key is it's diversity focused and the only one of its kind in San Diego,” Pamintuan said.
Some of the professional and student organizations that will be represented are the:
- Society of Hispanic Engineers
- Black Student Science Organization
- Society of Women Engineers
- National Society of Black Engineers
- American Medical Student Organization.
