Jewish Holiday Absences for Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff members must make arrangements to accommodate their wish to observe these holidays.

The Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset on the evening of Sunday, Sep. 16, through nightfall, Tuesday, Sep. 18.

Yom Kippur begins at sunset on the evening of Tuesday, Sep. 25, 2012, through nightfall, Wednesday, Sep. 26.

The faculty and administration at SDSU have traditionally worked with Jewish colleagues to accommodate their wish to observe these holidays.

Faculty members may, with the approval of their department chair, make arrangements to exchange teaching duties to accommodate Jewish colleagues.

Staff members may use their Personal Holiday, vacation, or CTO accruals with appropriate notice to their supervisor.

The policy on student absence from classes for religious observances can be found on page 16 of the University Senate Policy File.
