The 27th Annual Emeritus Administrator, Faculty and Staff Outstanding Awards Ceremony will be held Saturday, Oct. 27.
On Oct. 27, the Jane K. Smith Cap and Gown Chapter of Mortar Board at SDSU will host the 27th Annual Emeritus Administrator, Faculty and Staff Outstanding Service Awards Ceremony and Brunch on campus.
This year's honorees include:
- Cheryl Trtan, associate director of alumni programs, retired
- Ronald J. Angione, emeritus professor of astronomy
The awards ceremony will be conducted by Provost Nancy Marlin at 10:30 a.m. at the Mortar Board grove of trees between Love Library and the old Administration Building. The brunch will be held at 11 a.m. in East Commons.
The purpose of the award is to honor retired administrators, faculty and staff who gave generously of themselves to the university, its students and the community.
Trtan served the SDSU Alumni Association for 36 years. As pointed out by former President Stephen L. Weber on the occasion of her retirement:
"The work Cheryl did was critical. In an era where alumni engagement wasn't anywhere near the focus of emphasis that it is today, Cheryl did the external interacting. Cheryl was a constant resource for our alumni and Friends of SDSU. With a positive attitude and upbeat demeanor Cheryl communicated with our friends and donors on a daily basis. I am appreciative, Cheryl for your stellar representation of our university for 36 years, for your excellent production of the Monty's — which I have annually enjoyed, and most of all for your consummate loyalty to SDSU."
As pointed out by Charles Stewart, "Ron is dedicated to the university and its Mt. Laguna Observatory. He is responsible for the successful campaign to acquire a 50 inch telescope for the Observatory."
Angione received his bachelor's and master's degrees from SDSU. He joined the faculty in 1969 and served the university for 35 years. Since his retirement, he continues to teach a specialty course on the solar system, do research and publish articles.
Trtan and Angione will be commemorated for their service to SDSU with a bronze plaque placed at the base of a campus tree.
If you would like to attend, please RSVP by emailing Jane K. Smith by Oct. 17. Tickets are $30.
