Student Athlete Success
The Mountain West Conference named 39 Aztecs to the fall All-Academic Team.
Cross Country had 11 student athletes named to the all-academic team
A total of 39 San Diego State student-athletes from four different sports have been selected to the Mountain West all-academic team for the 2012 fall semester, the conference office announced Thursday.
The Aztec football team had the largest amount of honorees with 14 selections, including senior D.J.Shields, who boasts the highest cumulative grade point average of the SDSU contingent with a 3.87 in civil engineering. Senior Andrea Hannasch of the volleyball team sports the next highest GPA at 3.84 in math, followed by women's soccer senior Marisa Fraticelli, who is maintaining a 3.78 in nursing.
In all, the Aztec women's cross country squad had 11 of its runners selected, while women's soccer had eight picks, followed by volleyball's six honorees.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
