A.S. Swears in New Reps

The May 1 meeting also implemented the new governing structure for Associated Students.

It took years of planning, a record election turnout and hours of interviews. On May 1, the new Associated Students governing structure was implemented and more than 50 new elected and appointed representatives were sworn in at the last A.S. Council meeting.
 
What was once known as A.S. Council is now divided into four governing bodies:
 
  • A.S. Board of Directors
  • A.S. Campus Life Council
  • A.S. Judicial Affairs Council
  • A.S. University Council 

Lead by five elected executives, the board of directors replaces A.S. Council as the major decision-making body and the corporate board of directors for Associated Students. The executives for 2013-14 include:
 
  • President Josh Morse
  • Executive Vice President Becca Cohen
  • Vice President of External Relations Javier Gomez
  • Vice President of Financial Affairs Mariah Kelly
  • Vice President of University Affairs Morgan Chan
 
In addition to the elected executives, there are six appointed student-at-large representatives for 2013-14, including:
 
  • Jonathan Cole
  • Joshua Garman
  • Kevin Hancock
  • Washington Navarrete
  • Celeste Rodriguez
  • Jessica Seekatz

The A.S. Board of Directors also includes several committees, including:
 
  • Audit Committee
  • Executive Committee
  • Facilities & Services OPS Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Marketing & Communications Committee

The A.S. Campus Life Council, chaired by the executive vice president, oversees Associated Students’ student life programming and services, is represented by a mix of elected and appointed representatives, and includes several boards, such as:
 
  • Aztec Student Union Board 
  • Campus Community Board that includes the Good Neighbor Program
  • Community Service Board
  • Green Love Sustainability Advisory Board
  • Recreation & Wellness Board
  • Student Diversity Board
  • Student Support Board that includes the Commuter Student Board and the SDSU Children’s Center Board

The A.S. Judicial Affairs Council is chaired by an appointed chief justice and includes six appointed justices who enforce A.S. bylaws. The council also includes the:
 
  • Appointment & Review Committee
  • Awards Committee
  • Elections Committee

The A.S. University Council, chaired by the vice president of university affairs, is comprised of elected representatives from each college and includes several boards, councils and programs, such as:
 
  • Eight college councils representing the seven college councils and the Undeclared Students Council
  • Graduate Student Association
  • External Relations Board that includes Lobby Corps
  • University Affairs Board that includes the Academic Affairs Board
