The Aztec women's soccer team earned the NSCAA Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.
For the first time in school history, the San Diego State women's soccer program earned the NSCAA Bronze Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award. The Aztecs are one of three Mountain West squads and one of three Division I teams from California to be honored.
The College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recognizes schools that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.
SDSU picked up the Bronze Award after it received no more than 10 cards during its run to the 2013 Mountain West championship and NCAA tournament. Gold Awards were given to schools that accumulated zero cards and Silver Awards indicated teams did not receive a red card and had no more than five yellows during the campaign.
The other MW schools to earn distinction were Air Force (silver) and UNLV (bronze), while Pepperdine (silver) and UC Irvine (bronze) joined San Diego State as the lone Division I schools from the Golden State.
The Aztecs finished the 2013 campaign with a 13-7-2 record and a Mountain West-best record of 9-1. For the second straight year, San Diego State captured the MW regular-season title, won the conference tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
