Welcome Back, Spring 2014

Dozens of events welcome students to SDSU for the spring 2014 semester.

With the start of a new semster on Jan. 22, there will be campus organization-sponsored events that are free and open to the San Diego State University community.

The Aztec Student Union Grand Opening will take place in March, but the majority of the facility will open at the beginning of the semester.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

  • Union Welcome Home Address
    9 to 11 a.m. at Lee and Frank Goldberg Courtyard, Aztec Student Union
    Join SDSU President Elliot Hirshman and Associated Students’ President Josh Morse in a welcome to the brand new Aztec Student Union.
  • Chalk It Out
    9 to 10 a.m. at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre Walkway
    What does being an Aztec mean to you? Show your creativity by using chalk to show your Aztec Pride.
  • Meet the Board
    11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Union Walkway
    Learn how the Aztec Student Union Board serves as the student voice to enhance campus life.
  • Nooner Concert
    12 to 1 p.m. at Lee and Frank Goldberg Courtyard, Aztec Student Union
    The Music & Entertainment Committee is bringing back the weekly nooner concerts featuring live bands, acoustic sets and more.
  • Aztec Nights: UP All Night
    6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Montezuma Hall, Aztec Student Union
    A Men’s Basketball viewing party followed by a black light block party experience.

Thursday, Jan. 23

  • Live @ the Union: The Iota Eta Pi Comedy Show
    7 to 9 p.m. at Union Theatre 
    The Music & Entertainment Committee is collaborating with the Iota Eta Pi Improv group to put on a show at the new Aztec Student Union.
  • Aztec Nights: Winter Wonderland
    9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Scripps Cottage
    Enjoy sledding, building snowmen and playing games in 50 tons of snow.
  • Neon Bowling
    9 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Aztec Lanes, Aztec Student Union
    Check out theme nights at Aztec Lanes.

Friday, Jan. 24

  • DIY: Make it Sustainable with GreenFest
    12 to 2 p.m. at Templo Mayor, Aztec Student Union 
    GreenFest is hosting an interactive Do It Yourself event that promotes SDSU's commitment to sustainability, diversity, and Aztec Pride.
  • Aztec Pride Committee
    3 to 5 p.m. at Templo Mayor, Aztec Student Union
    Play board games and enjoy tea while learning more about the Aztec Pride Committee.
  • Aztec Nights: Movie in Chocolate Paradise
    10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Montezuma Hall, Aztec Student Union
    Sit back and watch hit films while indulging in delicious chocolate delights. Be sure to bring your Red ID.
  • 90s Bowling
    9 p.m. to 12 a.m. at Aztec Lanes, Aztec Student Union

Saturday, Jan. 25

  • Aztec Nights: Welcome Back Madness
    10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Montezuma Hall, Aztec Student Union
    Immediately following the SDSU Men’s Basketball game, join the Aztec tradition featuring a dance party, free food provided by Cheba hut, mocktails, photo booth, mechanical bull, Equinox Laser Battle and a special live performance.

Monday Jan. 27

  • Red & Black Brunch
    10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lee and Frank Goldberg Courtyard, Aztec Student Union
    Show your Aztec Pride by wearing red and black gear and enjoy free food to kick off the week.
  • Get S’more Music
    6 to 8 p.m. at Lee and Frank Goldberg Courtyard, Aztec Student Union
    Dueling pianos and s’mores.

Tuesday, Jan. 28

  • Aztec Mania
    12 to 2 p.m. at Union Walkway
    The Aztec Pride Committee is putting on "Minute to Win It" challenges to test your inner Aztec.

Wednesday, Jan. 29

  • Meet the Board
    11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Union Walkway
    Want to get involved, plan events, and make a difference on campus? Learn how the Aztec Student Union Board serves as the student voice to enhance campus life.
  • GreenFest Presents: No Impact Man
    7 to 9 p.m. at Union Theatre
    This documentary features a family during their year-long experiment to have a sustainable zero impact on the environment.

Thursday, Jan. 30

  • Live @ the Union: A’Capella Show
    12 to 1 p.m. at Lee and Frank Goldberg Courtyard, Aztec Student Union
    The Music & Entertainment Committee is proud to showcase SDSU’s most talented A 'Cappella singers.
  • Dance Series @ the Union: Country Line Dancing
    6 to 8 p.m. at Templo Mayor, Aztec Student Union
    Do you love to dance and sing country music? Hoot and holler as the SDSU Dance Team teaches you how to line dance. 
  • Aztec Nights: The Aztec Hunger Games
    9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Montezuma Hall, Aztec Student Union
    Come participate in the first annual Aztec Hunger Games that include battling it out in various obstacle courses and games.

Friday, Jan. 31

  • Aztec Nights: Montezuma Masquerade
    10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Montezuma Hall, Aztec Student Union
    Dance the night away in formal red and black attire. Showcase your creativity by making your own mask while enjoying a game of billiards and hors’doeuvres.
