The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is participating in Financial Aid Awareness Month.
The deadline to submit financial aid applications is just a month away and the San Diego State University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is preparing students with the information they need to maximize their financial aid opportunities.
“Students need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Also, Feb. 14 is the deadline for most SDSU scholarships that will be awarded for the 2014-15 academic year,” said Chris Collins, associate director of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Staff from the office will be tabling at several campus locations this month, providing their expertise and answering questions students have.
“A financial aid counselor will be available to answer questions about eligibility, types of aid available, deadlines and more,” Collins said.
If students have specific questions, they may be referred to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, in order to access their financial aid records.

Partnering with EOP
Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is partnering with the SDSU Educational Opportunity Program on campus to provide qualifying students with financial aid workshops.
“We partner with Educational Opportunity Program staff to give personal, bilingual assistance to students who may qualify for California Dream Act resources,” Collins said.
The California Dream act gives eligible students privately funded scholarships, as well as financial assistance from the university and the state.

Reap the benefits
Financial assistance is a part of many college students’ lives. February is the month to learn about financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Collins believes that student awareness of the financial aid and scholarship process is an important chapter in college students’ success.
“Students will gain access to resources that will help them pay their college costs and get a degree — a life changing event,” Collins said.
Thanks to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and their partners, Aztecs and prospective students around San Diego will have access to the information they need to continue their education.
