SDSU Accepting Applications for Fall 2011

The application period is open from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30.

It’s that time of year again—time for first-time freshmen and transfer students to apply to San Diego State University.

Students interested in attending SDSU or other California State University campuses in fall 2011 can apply during the application period that started Friday, Oct. 1, and ends Tuesday, Nov. 30.

"SDSU has, for the last several years, been one of the most popular universities in the country, receiving upwards of 62,000 applications each year,” said SDSU President Stephen L. Weber.

“It speaks to the progress we have made over the last decade in the growth of our academic programs, our research, the physical transformation of the campus and to the well rounded college experience we offer our students.”

Apply now

Students are strongly encouraged to be proactive in the application process and aware of campus requirements and deadlines.

High school seniors and community college transfer students should apply no later than Nov. 30. After that date, SDSU, along with most CSU campuses, will stop accepting applications.

Students intending to apply for fall 2011 should visit to complete the online application. CSU Mentor is the best systemwide source for updated information on the specific deadlines for campuses and programs.

Eric Forbes, director of CSU Enrollment Management Services, provides more information on the application process and advice for prospective students in this podcast.

Impacted campuses

In addition to SDSU, 15 of the CSU's 23 campuses have declared impaction for first-time freshmen; many are also impacted at the transfer level. Impaction means that a campus anticipates more qualified applicants than there are spots available.

Students applying to SDSU face additional criteria, such as a higher grade point average or, if applying as a transfer student, completing all general education and prerequesite courses. At SDSU, students must apply to a specific major.

Because of impaction at SDSU and other CSU campuses, students are encouraged to apply to a second CSU campus as a backup in case they are not admitted to the campus or major of their first choice.
