With a smashed-in hood, busted doors and a shredded roof, little evidence remained of the red convertible destroyed at the hands of sledgehammer-wielding students, faculty and staff eager to raise money for college scholarships.

The Associated Business Student Council hosted the car smashing event, March 15, to raise funds for a local non-profit organization that directs scholarship dollars to high school students pursuing higher education — the friends of Cal-SOAP Dollars for Scholars Chapter. The event raised nearly $900.

"I was excited to see students giving back to other students in the area," said Jaclyn Hugg, publicity chair of the Dollars for Scholars program. "The more money we can fundraise, the more we can grow and help more students."

Fox 5 San Diego and San Diego 6 also covered the event.
