San Diego State University is encouraging the campus community to take part in the Great California Shakeout, where participants can learn about how to protect themselves during an earthquake.
There are a number of ways to prepare for an earthquake and practice safety during an earthquake.
Earthquake drill, Oct. 18
Information about the Oct. 18 Shakeout, including suggestions for how to participate, may be found on the SDSU Emergency Preparedness website.
During the shakeout, the SDSU campus will not be holding official "drop, cover and hold" drills, and no buildings will be evacuated. However, campus emergency communication resources will be tested, including the SDSU Alert text messaging system and social media.
The university's Facebook page (TheSDSU) and Twitter account (@SDSU_NewsTeam) are used in the event of a campus emergency. Those interested in signing up for SDSU Alert can find more information here.
Register for SDSU Alert.
In the event of an emergency, SDSU will use SDSU Alert, Facebook, Twitter and other media to communicate with the public.
