February is Financial Aid Awareness month.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Aztec Parents Association, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships has made it easier easier for parents and students to understand the financial aid and application process at SDSU.
"It is important for students and parents to know the deadline to apply for scholarships and financial aid in order to maximize their scholarship and financial aid award opportunities," said Craig Yamamoto, director of financial aid and scholarships.
AidLink, the website used to communicate to students about financial aid and scholarships, provides announcements, deadlines and forms. Students can also learn more about the financial aid application process.
For those who are looking for specific program funding, including study abroad and veterans, the website is a useful tool to figure out eligibility requirements and disbursement time tables.
A detailed video, “How to Use AidLink”, was created to simplify the AidLink website for parents and students.
On AidLink, Cash Course offers students and parents financial tips and information, such as how loan fees work and what interest rates are.
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will have tables set up throughout the month of February to educate students about available financial aid and scholarships and answer any questions.

Get a jump start on FAFSA
FAFSA is a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. On SDSU's Aidlink, the video “7 Easy Steps to the FAFSA” offers a step-by-step guide for students and parents to complete the 2013-14 application.
The priority FAFSA deadline is March 2, and the priority deadline to submit verification documents is April 1. Students can apply after these dates, but funding is limited and awards will be delayed.
Additionally, there are three SDSU scholarship application cycles. The first cycle closes on Feb. 8.
Scholarship applications are available on the scholarships web page.
