New ARC Director

Mark Zakrzewski is the new director of recreation for the Aztec Recreation Center.

San Diego State University welcomed Mark Zakrzewski as the new director of recreation.

The Aztec Recreation Center welcomed Mark Zakrzewski, recreation director.

Zakrzewski brings 17 years of experience leading comprehensive campus recreation programs, facilities and services including:

  • fitness and wellness
  • intramural sports
  • club sports
  • activity classes
  • outdoor adventures
  • youth programs
  • facilities operations
  • informal recreation
  • aquatics

Zakrzewski began his professional career with the Physical Education and Recreation Department at the University of Oregon.

After completing tenure in Oregon, the opportunity for sunshine and continued professional growth led Mark to the University of Arizona where he served for the past 13 years.

Zakrzewski completes a triathlon in his former home town of Tucson, AZ.

Zakrzewski has a tremendous passion and enthusiasm for recreation and firmly believes that a strong recreation program is essential for enhancing the quality of life on a college campus.

Among his career accomplishments, Zakrzewski cites his significant involvement with two large scale campus recreation center construction projects, his efforts developing student and professional staff and his tenure as the interim director of campus recreation at the University of Arizona as some of his most meaningful contributions.

Mark earned a master’s degree in exercise and sport science with an emphasis in sports administration from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

He additionally served as an adjunct faculty instructor in Tucson in the Fitness and Sports Science Department at Pima Community College.

Zakrzewski can be found at the Aquaplex, on the Woodway Treadmills or cross training utilizing the Aztec Recreation Center’s equipment and facilities as he prepares for his next triathlon.
