New Student and Family Convocation is a San Diego State University tradition that signals the beginning of a student's college career at SDSU.
This Saturday, SDSU President Elliot Hirshman, Provost Nancy Marlin, Associated Students' President Josh Morse, Aztec Parents Advisory Board members and the college deans will welcome new students and their families to the SDSU community. An estimated 8,000 students and their guests will attend.
Just as commencement is a ritual marking the completion of study, convocation signals the beginning of a college career and promote SDSU's institutional values of scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
Prior to New Student and Family Convocation, the SDSU Marching Band and cheerleaders will lead new students and families in the Band Run, which begins at 8:45 a.m. in front of the residence halls on the east side of campus.
The Band Run is a morning march through the campus, stopping at the iconic Hepner Hall and ending at Viejas Arena.
The 11th annual New Student and Family Convocation will be held at 10 a.m. on August 24 in Viejas Arena.
All new students including transfer students, commuter students and residential students and their families are strongly encouraged to attend this special event.
