Get Together, Give Back

In celebration of SDSU’s Teal Ribbon Campaign, come together for a cause with your faculty and staff colleagues!
By Natalia Elko

In celebration of SDSU’s Teal Ribbon Campaign, which seeks to stimulate dialogue across campus on the important and relevant topics of sexual violence, come together with your faculty and staff colleagues for the Get Together, Give Back Fall Social, sponsored by the Celebrating Aztec Faculty and Staff Committee.

Get Together, Give Back

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in the courtyard of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. SDSU President Elliot Hirshman will be making a presentation at 11 a.m.

The social is a way for faculty and staff to learn more about SDSU’s efforts to end sexual assault and to connect with colleagues. There will be an optional service activity supporting the SDSU Teal Ribbon Campaign where participants can choose to make teal ribbons, which is the ribbon associated with sexual assault and sexual violence prevention.

Sexual Violence Awareness Seminar

Prior to the Get Together, Give Back social, faculty and staff can attend a Sexual Violence Awareness Seminar, “Together We Can: Understanding and Preventing Sexual Violence.” Presented by Jeffrey S. Bucholtz, a nationally recognized expert in the field of sexual violence prevention and awareness, Bucholtz will take a critical look at the ways in which our culture facilitates sexual violence and the impact that has on a campus community.

Participants will learn how to utilize new strategies for discussing the language of gender and violence, and apply discussions about the root causes of violence to their own work. The seminar will also help participants to understand the links between oppression, dehumanization and sexual violation and to identify opportunities and implement strategies for sexual violence prevention and response at SDSU.

The seminar begins at 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 22 in the Theater of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. To RSVP to the seminar and/or the Get Together, Give Back Fall Social, please click here.

The seminar is recommended for all SDSU faculty and staff, especially those who regularly engage with students in the classroom or in advisory roles. Please note it will include discussions on the topics of sex and sexuality, and the vulgarities of language relating to sex and sexuality.

Celebrating Aztec Faculty and Staff Committee

As part of the SDSU Strategic Plan, a working group was created with the goal of identifying and recommending celebratory experiences to recognize institutional and individual excellence of the university’s faculty and staff.

The Celebrating Aztec Faculty and Staff Committee is made up of members from across campus. The group is sponsoring Get Together, Give Back and works to put on programs that encourage faculty and staff to celebrate each other.
