A grant provided by the Moxie Foundation will enable teams in San Diego State University’s Zahn Innovation Center to grow their business ideas.

The Moxie Foundation — an extension of Irwin Zahn’s dedication to enriching and empowering individuals and communities by advancing educational achievement and entrepreneurial success — along with San Diego Gas & Electric and SDSU will provide funds for teams in the Zahn Innovation Center.

The Zahn Center Success Fund will be awarded to qualifying Zahn Innovation Center teams. Teams are eligible for up to $5,000 in grant funding. The funds can be used for creating websites, developing product prototypes, building brand development and other practical applications.

“The Zahn Innovation Center is committed to helping our businesses grow by removing all barriers that are in the way when starting a business,” said Cathy Pucher, executive director of the Zahn Innovation Center. “This grant will help level the playing field for all the ideas that start here.”

The Zahn Innovation Center provides at no cost to participating teams; engineering services, mentors, domain experts, pro bono legal guidance and a co-working space. With the help of the grant, the center aims to provide up to 20 grants to qualifying teams each year.

Teams at the Zahn Innovation Center are made up of SDSU students, faculty and staff from all across campus.  Teams include both social and commercial enterprises from a wide variety of industries, from fitness technology to education software to water sustainability.

The first round of Success Fund grants are expected to be awarded later this semester.
