The Moxie Foundation, whose recent $5.1-million gift will expand and strengthen entrepreneurial programs at San Diego State University, has been recognized for its philanthropic leadership by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, San Diego chapter.

Founded by Irwin Zahn in 1998, and currently led by him and his son, Peter Zahn, the Moxie Foundation supports innovative, impactful educational and entrepreneurial initiatives. It won this year’s award for Outstanding Philanthropic Organization

Third gift to SDSU

The foundation’s endowed gift to SDSU will create the Zahn Innovation Platform (ZIP), the Zahn Chair of Creativity and Innovation, the Zahn Professorship of Creativity and Innovation, and the Irwin Zahn Spirit of Innovation Prize. This endowment is the Moxie Foundation’s third gift to SDSU.

In 2014, the foundation provided more than $1.5 million to support San Diego-based organizations; Its 2015 giving and pledges are more than double that amount.

The Moxie Foundation has also supported The Education Synergy Alliance and the San Diego Unified School District, providing thousands of local high school students a rigorous education and workplace experience to make learning relevant to their career goals and aspirations.

The award will be presented on San Diego’s 43rd annual National Philanthropy Day, Monday, Nov. 9.
