Viejas Arena, formerly known as Cox Arena, opened its doors to the campus and community in July of 1997. Owned and operated by SDSU Associated Students,  the coveted campus arena has provided the community with entertainment, including San Diego State University basketball games and concerts starring world-renowned artists.

The facility, which is located at the site of the old Aztec Bowl, is capable of seating up to 12,845 guests.

On April 19, 2012, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama spoke to a packed audience at Viejas Arena. His address covered far ranging topics from WWII to 9/11 to social media, with a common thread of love and understanding.

The campus community is also able to attend a wide variety of concerts, thanks to Viejas Arena.  Artists including Lady Gaga, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters and Metallica have rocked out on stage in front of thousands of fans.

Viejas Arena is also home to SDSU's Commencement ceremonies.
