Top Entrepreneurship Stories of 2016

San Diego State University has integrated entrepreneurship across many facets on campus.

Dedicated to entrepreneurship and innovation, San Diego State University provides students with a unique blend of coursework and experiential learning opportunities through campus resources like the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center and the Zahn Innovation Platform Launchpad.

Here are some of the top entrepreneurship stories from the past year.

Lavin Entrepreneurship Center Honored


The Lavin Entrepreneurship Center was honored for “Exceptional Activities in Entrepreneurship Across Disciplines” by the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers at its annual conference earlier this year. SDSU was one of 14 institutions selected from a record-high pool of 92 award applications.

John Eger Named First Zahn Professor of Creativity


A noted authority on global technology, innovation and communication, John Eger was named the first Zahn Professor of Creativity and Innovation at SDSU. In his new role, Eger will build on SDSU’s success of incorporating entrepreneurial initiatives into the curriculum.

Growing a Business and Hiring Aztecs

Former Associated Students President Cody Barbo has assembled a team of Aztecs for his company, Industry. Nine of the company’s 15 current employees are Aztec alumni. The growing company recently won TechWeek LA’s Launch Competition.

Local Mentors for Tomorrow’s Business Leaders

Talented SDSU undergraduate students are paired with members of the local business community for mentorships as part of the Lavin VentureStart program. Graduates of the two-year program will be able to identify and evaluate new business opportunities, and deploy resources in order to launch new ventures.

DeNoble Honored as Entrepreneurship Leader

SDSU’s Lavin Entrepreneurship Center Executive Director Alex DeNoble was presented with the International Council for Small Business’ 2016-2017 (ICSB) Presidential Award.
