We are saddened as we mourn the loss of a great San Diegan and a cherished alumnus, Bill Trumpfheller (’87). Our thoughts are with his wife, Nola (’99), his children and all of his loved ones.

Trumpfheller was an icon in San Diego’s public relations community and the embodiment of what it means to be an Aztec for Life. A two-time president of the San Diego State University Alumni Association, he was also a co-chair of the President’s Task Force on Aztec Identity in 2001. He served on The Campanile Foundation board and its Athletics Committee and was presented the SDSU Alumni Monty award for distinguished alumni service in 2009. Trumpfheller was an ardent supporter of Aztec Athletics and gave his time  and talents to help develop the Rise to 25, the university’s campaign to bring all of its athletics programs to Top 25 status.

Throughout his career, Trumpfheller was a mentor to hundreds of students and believed in hiring fellow alumni. A majority of the staff at Nuffer, Smith, Tucker, of which he was president, are graduates of SDSU.

Trumpfheller’s impact on San Diego and on SDSU in particular has been immeasurable. He will be greatly missed by the San Diego State University community.
