Living in a world where the wage gap still exists and the vast majority of CEOs are men, attending a school where gender parity is a priority is attractive to many students.

San Diego State University is ranked among the top 10 full-time MBA programs with the highest proportion of women enrolled in fall 2016, according to a ranking released last month by U.S. News & World Report.

"Part of the reason I chose SDSU’s MBA program was the male-female ratio,” said Vanessa Stracke, an MBA student at SDSU. "I wanted to study in a diverse environment and have the opportunity to connect with other female MBA students who also want to become successful businesswomen in the future."

SDSU came in at No. 9 on the list of the top 10 schools, with 48.9 percent of full-time MBA students enrolled as female.

According to the ranking, less than 40 percent of full-time MBA students enrolled at ranked business schools were female in fall 2016.

“It’s definitely important to have significant representation of women in our MBA program,” said Nikhil Varaiya, director of graduate programs in the SDSU Fowler College of Business. “Many women typically come in with 3-5 years of experience, and it is our goal to build upon that and prepare them for management positions.”

SDSU’s full-time MBA program is also ranked among the nation’s top 50 public business schools by Bloomberg/Businessweek. In 2017, U.S. News & World Report ranked SDSU’s part-time MBA program among the nation’s best.
