New Education Faculty for 2009-10
The College of Education welcomes three new professors.
Given the terrible California budget, SDSU has a much reduced group of new faculty this year, and is especially pleased to be able to introduce 12 new faculty members to campus, including three new faculty members in the College of Education.

Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Postsecondary Education
Shaila D. Mulholland, Ph.D. (New York University 2009) Mulholland’s research and teaching explore issues of access and equity in postsecondary education, with a focus on the history and development of community colleges. Mulholland recently completed an ASHE-Lumina Foundation funded dissertation project, which explored the causes and consequences of how Indiana developed its community college system. Prior to coming to SDSU, Mulholland was a research assistant with NYU’s Alliance for International Higher Education Policy Studies and a project associate with the National Survey of Student Engagement. Mulholland is an active member of the Association for the Study of Higher Education, American Education Research Association, Council for the Study of Community Colleges, Organization of Educational Historians, and the History of Education Society.
Department of Educational Leadership
Patti L. Chance, Ph.D. (University of Oklahoma, 1992) Chance is professor and chair of the Educational Leadership Department. Her areas of interest and expertise include instructional leadership, supervision, school and curriculum improvement, and organizational behavior and leadership theory. She is author or co-author of three books. Her second edition of An Introduction to Educational Leadership and Organizational Behavior: Theory into Practice, an introductory text for educational administration, was released in February 2009. She has served as a journal editor of a national, refereed education journal and currently sits on editorial boards for several national journals devoted to educational leadership. Her published research is related to instructional supervision, educational administration preparation programs, and leading for systemic change.
Department of Special Education
Jason Naranjo, Ph.D. (University of Oregon 2009) Naranjo received his Ph.D. in Special Education and Clinical Science. His scholarship focuses on the early career experiences of special educators. Naranjo has carried out large-scale survey and evaluation projects that have been influential in determining the professional training needs of individuals who are preparing to work in the fields of education and social services. In addition to this work, Naranjo conducts research that is focused on the post-school outcomes of at-risk youth and youth with disabilities.
