New PSFA Faculty for 2009-10
The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts welcomes three new professors.
Given the terrible California budget, SDSU has a much reduced group of new faculty this year, and is especially pleased to be able to introduce 12 new faculty members to campus, including three new faculty members in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts.

School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences
Nicole Smith, Ph.D. (University of Nevada, Las Vegas 2009) Smith is an assistant professor of kinesiology specializing in physical education teacher preparation. Her research interests include measurement of physical activity behavior, environmental and policy factors that influence participation in physical activity, and the broader implications of physical activity programming for school-aged children. She is presently working as project coordinator for "Discovering Obstacles to Physical Education: Do PE!," a national research project to examine barriers and facilitators in the adoption of evidence-based curriculum in elementary physical education.
School of Journalism and Media Studies
Hongmei Shen, Ph.D. (University of Maryland, College Park, 2009) Shen is specialized in public relations. She also holds a graduate certificate in measurement, statistics and evaluation from the University of Maryland. Her areas of interests include strategic management of public relations, relationship management, international public relations, corporate social responsibilities, crisis communication, health communication, organizational psychology and quantitative research methods. She is a former journalist who has been involved in international relations, new technology, health campaigns and media relations. Current research programs focus on developing an internal relationship management theory and testing a newly developed measurement tool of organization-public relationships.

Matthew Rowe, M.M. (Peabody Conservatory of Music 1992) Rowe is a British conductor who brings to San Diego State University a wide-ranging international career as both performer and teacher. He has worked with most of the major ensembles in Great Britain, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the BBC Symphony
Orchestra, English National Opera and the Royal Ballet. His diverse career has encompassed opera, ballet and choral, as well as orchestral conducting across Europe. His performance interests also include projects such as live accompaniments to silent films and live web-cast concerts. In demand as a teacher, he is deeply committed to all aspects of musical education and community work utilizing the arts as a catalyst for transformation.
