Have you ever wondered what would happen if two of your favorite fairy tales collided?

In the newest production from SDSU Theatre, audience members will find out during Into the Woods, a musical comedy that debuted at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. Into the Woods blends music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim with plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales.

Into the Woods goes on-stage at 8 p.m., Nov. 13, 14, 19-21, and at 2 p.m., Nov. 15 and 22. Tickets range from $13-$15 and are available online or in-person at the Don Powell Theatre Box Office.

Fairy tale contest

Interested in writing your own "collided" fairy tale? Submit a typed original work where two of your favorite fairytales collide, in 500 words or less, by Thursday, Nov. 12 and you could win:

• Two Spring Semester Subscription Seats for Spring 2010
• Four vouchers for intermission concessions items
• Top five stories displayed in the lobby of Don Powell Theatre

Submit stories to the Don Powell Box Office from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or use the always-open Drop Box. Please remember to include your name, e-mail address and phone number on the story.

About the production

Into the Woods debuted in San Diego in 1986, and premiered on Broadway in 1987. Winning several Tony Awards, the musical is inspired by Bruno Bettelheim's 1976 book, The Uses of Enchantment, and intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows them further to explore the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests.

The main characters are taken from the stories of "Little Red Ridinghood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Rapunzel" and "Cinderella," tied together by a more original story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family.
