The Brave Project Certificate Program

Training One: Sept. 26 and 27 from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
Training Two: Nov. 14 and 15 from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
Training Three: Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Brave Project provides intensive prevention and intervention programing to students, faculty, and staff at San Diego State University. This is a 2-part certification program. Please note, advance registration is required!

Better Support for Survivors with a Comprehensive Approach: Trauma-Informed Responses

Emily Austin, JD, is the Director of Advocacy Services for the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA). She works on improving system responses to sexual assault in such areas as college/university, incarcerated populations, and workplace.  She provides technical assistance and training to rape crisis centers and collaboration partners on issues of trauma-informed strategies, collaborative models, and advocacy. A native of Northern California, Ms. Austin graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a BA in Women’s Studies and English. She received her law degree from the University of Southern California; Gould School of Law.  Upon graduating law school, Emily was an Audrey and Sydney Irmas Fellow at the California Women’s Law Center.  Her fellowship focused on teen dating violence and the educational system’s response to teen dating violence, sexual assault, and sexual harassment.  She previously worked at Peace Over Violence where she helped publish several curricula and policy papers. She founded the Coalition for Healthy Teen Relationships and the Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Advisory Council—both groups look at system changes and shifting social norms to promote healthy relationships.

This comedy troupe uses an unorthodox and humor-facilitated approach to examining our culture, sex, and the dynamics of healthy intimate relationships. Join us for comedy and an important conversation about consent.

Let's Talk Sexual Violence in the LGBTQ+ Community

Thursday, March 24 from 1-2 pm in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union, Templo Mayor

Sexual violence can affect every demographic and community, including LGBTQ+ people. Studies have shown that LGBTQ+ people experience similar, if not higher rates of sexual violence than people who identify as heterosexual.

Join us as for a discussion centered on bringing awareness to sexual violence in the LGBTQ+ community.

Let's Talk Dating Violence

Wednesday, February 17 at noon in Scripps Cottage

Did you know that 32 percent of college students have experienced dating violence? Did you also know that the majority of college students don't know how to identify dating violence, how to seek help, or how to support a friend who experiences dating violence?

Join us for an interactive discussion about dating violence including how to identify it, and how to get support, as well as how to create health relationships.  

*Additional spring 2016 dates will be announced soon. 

Survivor's Circle

The SDSU Women's Resource Center will be hosting a Survivor's Circle a confidential support group for survivors of sexual and dating violence on the first and third Wednesday of every month. The support group is fascilitated by a licensed counselor who does NOT have a duty to report sexual violence to SDSU's Title IX office.
