This year, SDSU added a new component to its City Heights Educational Collaborative, an innovative partnership among the San Diego Unified School District, Price Charities, the San Diego Education Association and SDSU. The partnership gives SDSU operating authority for three City Heights schools, including Hoover High School.

The new component is called the College Avenue Compact, a guaranteed admissions program modeled after the Compact with the Sweetwater Union High School District. It will guarantee admission to SDSU for Hoover students who meet specified academic requirements and are continuously enrolled at Hoover from the 9th through 12th grades. Current Hoover freshmen comprise the first class, eligible for admittance to SDSU in 2011.
The City Heights Educational Collaborative was one of three national initiatives in higher education recognized as a 2007 Example of Excellence by the national education non-profit organization ¡Excelencia! In Education. This honor is awarded for making a significant contribution to improving educational achievement among Latino students.
