Roush Appointed Interim President of SDSU (May 15, 2017)

Roush head shot 1.3

California State University (CSU) Chancellor Timothy P. White has appointed Sally Roush as interim president of San Diego State University. Roush will begin in her position on July 1, 2017, and serve in that capacity until a new president, selected by the CSU system's Board of Trustees, arrives in early summer 2018.

Longtime members of the SDSU community will be familiar with Roush, who has served in various capacities at the university for 31 years. Roush initially joined SDSU in 1982 as director of personnel services and held that position until 1994, when she was promoted to the position of senior vice president for Business and Financial Affairs.

She served as senior vice president until her retirement from the university in 2013. Roush also led the steering committee for SDSU’s strategic plan, “Building on Excellence,” which will be in its final year when Roush assumes the interim role. READ MORE

President Elliot Hirshman Ending Tenure at SDSU (March 8, 2017)

San Diego State University President Elliot Hirshman announced that he has accepted the presidency of Stevenson University in Maryland. His last day at SDSU will be June 30. Hirshman has served as the president of SDSU since 2011.

“The last six years have been the most extraordinary period of my and Jeri’s professional lives,” Hirshman said. “The opportunity to work with the dedicated and talented students, faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters of San Diego State has inspired us, and it has been a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of this great university.”

During Hirshman’s time as SDSU’s eighth president, SDSU has raised its profile as a major public research university. SDSU ranks in the top 10 for students studying abroad and for ethnic and economic diversity; Forbes, Fortune and U.S. News & World Report all rank it in the top 25 for entrepreneurship; and the university has produced 85 Fulbright student scholars in the past decade. SDSU researchers bring in $130 million annually in external research funding. READ MORE
