Upper Division Major: Science Emphasis (Catalog Year 2014 and Later)

The Liberal Studies major with a Science Emphasis prepares students for teaching science in middle school. Several pathways exist.  One pathway includes obtaining a science authorization along with a multiple subjects elementary credential; this authorizes candidates to teach multiple subjects in elementary school and science in middle school.

Other pathways lead to a single subject credential in science; this authorizes candidates to teach science in middle school and lower level science at the high school level.

The decision to move to the Science Emphasis doesn't need to be made until after the prepfor the major is completed. Interested matriculated students should meet with a Liberal Studies advisor to discuss the possibility of declaring and pursuing the Science Emphasis.

Print a science emphasis advising sheet listing all of the required courses to complete the Liberal Studies major with a science emphasis.
