Dean's Office

Michelle Lopez, M.A.

Assistant Dean, Division of Undergraduate Studies

Michelle Lopez

Michelle Lopez, supports and advances student success across campus by mentoring students from diverse majors, facilitating faculty/student research mentor placements, preparing scholars for graduate school acceptance, and fostering a culture of excellence in the area of National Scholarships and Fellowships. She also tracks student success outcomes in various honors, awards or scholarship opportunities and serves as a division liaison to Student Affairs. Michelle is recognized for outstanding advising, service, teaching, and mentoring, and her mentees are currently enrolled in graduate programs, have completed their graduate degrees, or are employed as faculty or researchers at top institutions across the nation.

Michelle received her MA in Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Postsecondary Education and her BS in Biological Sciences from San Diego State University. Michelle brings to Undergraduate Studies over fifteen years of advising, mentoring, consulting, and teaching focused on academic success in higher education. Prior to joining Undergraduate Studies, she directed the SDSU Minority Biomedical Research Support Program, a research training and mentoring program funded by the National Institute of Health designed to retain underrepresented STEM students and facilitate their acceptance into Ph.D. programs. Her efforts brought over 5 million dollars in external contributions to SDSU that supported student success, implemented academic-year scientific and professional development seminars and workshops, and developed the Undergraduate Research Symposium, which promoted scholarly research for science and engineering students and served as the model for the current campus-wide Student Research Symposium.
