ABOUT LITERACY GRANTS

As part of Phi Kappa Phi’s mission “to engage the community of scholars in service to others,” grants of up to $2500 are available to champion literacy initiatives

SELECTION CRITERIA

• The definition of literacy should be considered broadly.
• Proposals may be for new projects or for support of existing projects. Project directors must reapply each year to receive funding, and they must be active Society members.
• Target groups may include preschool children to adults.
• Budget can be under only for supplies and materials, publicity, postage, etc. No salaries of stipends included.

ELIGIBILITY

Literacy Grants are available to Phi Kappa Phi chapters and active members for projects relating to literacy.

Members should feel free to consider literacy either as a basic skill to be taught to those in need or as a set of expanded skills including math, computers, and more.

Chapters or individual members may consider either starting a literacy project on campus or in the community or contributing in some way to an existing literacy project. Duration of the project may be either short-term, one-time activity, or a longer ongoing series of activities. Please refer to the Literacy Grant application for suggestions on the range of possibilities that may be considered.
