Local Hotels:

The Hilton Doubletree (Mission Valley) and the Hilton Mission Valley are typically reasonably priced and minutes from San Diego International Airport (SAN), and the White House Convening at San Diego State University.

The Hilton Hotel (Mission Valley) has a limited amount of rooms held at a discounted price of $119.00 per night. Guest using this hotel will require their own transportation to SDSU. Use the CODE SDSU DCSP to receive the discount.

We are in process of reserving a small block at Hilton Doubletree, However, on-line prices at this time appear to be quite similar (@149.00). As an FYI -The San Diego Chargers play the Raiders at home Sunday November 16th. Raider’s fans often stay at the Doubletree as it is on the Trolley Line to the stadium.

Airport/Hotel Shuttle:

Shuttle services to and from the airport to either hotel are provided by Super ShuttleCloud 9 Shuttle, or other shuttle services for approximately $10-$15 per person. Taxis are also available to and from the airport for approximately $25.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How come I wasn’t invited? How did people get an invite to this event?

Invitations to express interest and submit teams for the San Diego event went out to attendees who participated in the Harvard convening first.  Additionally, the American School Counseling Association forwarded a request to state ASCA presidents and school district directors. Those interested in attending were invited to submit team members and commitments via an online survey.

  • Who’s coming from my state?

The list of attendees will be released following the event.

  • Can I still be involved?

Yes! Live streaming will be provided during the event. A link has been provided on the homepage of this website and will be live Monday (November 17) morning.

  • I put in a request to come but I was not selected. Why not?

There were far more requests than could be accommodated to attend this convening. Selections were made based on balance of team members (higher ed, K-12,and college access) and commitments made to collaborate with other stakeholders.

  • Am I supposed to fill all this out by myself?

Some teams are much further along than others in creating their strategic action plan. If you feel comfortable filling it out by yourself, please give it a try. Drafts are welcome and will be appreciated by your team when you arrive in San Diego. Technical assistance will also be proved in San Diego for those who need it.

  • Where should I start?

Please watch the webinar on Friday, November 7th at 1:30 pm EST (10:30am PST). If you are unable to watch live, a YouTube link will be uploaded to the website this weekend.

White House Convening Directions and Parking Info

Driving Directions to SDSU and Parking Lot G

From Interstate 8, exit at College Avenue (exit 10) and go south. Continue on College Avenue South through the Canyon Crest Drive/Alvarado Road stop light. Cross under two pedestrian bridges and turn left at your first opportunity, before the large arched bridge. Take your first right into parking lot G. There is no cost to park in parking lot G on November 17 and 18, but you may be ticketed if you park in any other lot on campus without a valid parking permit.

Once parked, White House Convening and SDSU representatives will direct you to the large arched pedestrian bridge located in the southwest corner of parking lot G. Cross over this bridge and you will walk into the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union where the conference will convene. Representatives will be on hand to assist you beginning at 7:30am on both days of the Convening.

Note: To request disability accommodations, contact Student Disability Services at fox123@mail.sdsu.edu or (619) 594-6473.

Classes are in session at San Diego State University on Monday, November 17, and Tuesday, November 18 and as such parking spaces may be limited. We therefore strongly encourage carpooling or using the local public transportation light rail San Diego Trolley, which runs directly to the SDSU Transit Center, adjacent to the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. Many SDSU students, faculty, and staff ride the Green Line trolley to campus every day from downtown San Diego, Old Town, and the Hotel Circle/Mission Valley area. For more information about this convenient and environmentally friendly alternative to driving, please see http://www.sdmts.com/trolley/trolley.asp.
