Hosting a Fulbright scholar at SDSU

There are several opportunities to host Fulbright visiting scholars. Professors that are planning to host a Fulbright scholar are responsible for assisting the scholar upon their arrival in San Diego. Housing and transit information may be found in the OIP Visiting Scholars pages.



Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR)

The SIR program allows U.S. universities to host foreign scholars to lecture for a semester or academic year. Preference is given to institutions developing an international agenda or serving minority audiences. Approximately 50 grants are awarded annually.


Grant Duration: 

A semester to full academic year.

Outreach Lecturing Fund

This fund allows visiting scholars to share their research interests, collaborate with U.S. students, faculty, and community organizations, speak about the history and culture of their countries, and create linkages between their home and host institutions.

Faculty development programs 

These ten week programs brings junior scholars to the United States for faculty development, mentoring, and cultural exchange in order to build the capacity of educational institutions in their home countries and foster long-term communication.
