Path to Career:
I changed majors several times as an undergraduate and did not know where I wanted to go. Neither of my parents went to college, so I also had no idea about education beyond a college degree. I have always been curious about why people do what they do, and ultimately found a passion for the approach that social psychologists take to understanding people and their choices. I studied motivation as a doctoral student at the University of Utah and accepted my first academic job in 2008 at Cal State Long Beach. I transitioned to SDSU in 2016, where I teach graduate and undergraduate courses in social psychology and direct the Motivation and Social Identity Lab.
