Make a PDF from a Word or PowerPoint document

All Abstracts for the SRS Registration process must be uploaded in PDF format. Instructions for making a PDF from your Word document are below.

A PDF can be made in the “Print” dialog box in Word or PowerPoint (all versions). Follow these steps:

  1. Open the print dialog box
  2. Click the “Page Setup” button
  3. Set up the correct paper size and orientation
  4. Click OK
  5. Choose the the PDF drop down menu in the lower left corner of the “Page Setup” dialog box
  6. Make sure your file is being saved to the correct folder and select “save as PDF.”



Older Versions of Word or PowerPoint


Often, the easiest way to make a PDF in older versions of Office is using Adobe Acrobat (not the Acrobat Reader). If you do not have the full version of Acrobat, it is available on computers in Love Library. If you are using a version of Office older than 2007, Acrobat is the only way to make a PDF from Word or Powerpoint. Making a PDF using Acrobat is quite self explanatory, but there is also assistance available to help you at the library.


Newer versions of Word and PowerPoint


The best place to find instructions on making a PDF from newer versions of Word or PowerPoint is on the Microsoft support web site:


Directions are also available through Word or PowerPoint using the Help feature. Click on the blue circle with the question mark in the upper right corner and search for “make a PDF.”
