SDSU music students present an annual free concert in Balboa Park.
The family-friendly concert will begin at 5 p.m., Saturday, May 5.
The Kiwanis Club of San Diego and San Diego State University School of Music and Dance present the annual free, family-friendly Concert in the Park at Balboa Park’s Organ Pavilion. The event begins at 5 p.m., Saturday, May 5.
About the concert
The Concierto Cinco a Las Cinco (Concert in the Park) is an annual “gift” to the community from the Kiwanis Club of Downtown San Diego.
The San Diego Kiwanis Club has spent the past 94 years providing extensive community involvement programs for youth and the greater San Diego community.
The concert, through sponsor gifts, generates scholarships and grants for talented, deserving SDSU music students.
Concierto Cinco a las Cinco features the SDSU Chamber Choir, directed by Patrick Walders, and the Jazz Ensemble directed by Bill Yeager.
The two groups will perform together and individually celebrating Cinco de Mayo, and will present arrangements such as “South of the Borde,” “Concierto de Aranjuez” and “Besame Mucho.”
“The annual concert makes it possible for the community at large to experience our student’s talent,” said Donna Conaty, director of SDSU’s School of Music and Dance. “Kiwanis support makes it possible for our faculty to spend hours inside and outside the classroom helping students prepare.”
